چکیده
-An examination of warming rates of chest muscle in relation to rectal temperature and subsequent thermal mapping of selected tissues in active bats has shown the following trends: 1. During arousal, chest muscle warms slightly faster than rectal temperature in Pipistrrllus hasperus. .411fro:ous pullidus, MJsotis califbrnicus, M. thysanodes. Eptesicus fuscus, and Tudarida hrusiliellsis. whereas in Plrcorus towtlsendii chest muscle warms twice as fast as rectal. 2. Bats that warmed sufficiently to initiate flight in the laboratory had interscapular temperatures that wcrc higher than rectal, brain. or adjacent flight muscles. 3. Field data. however, indicate interscapular temperatures to be lower than flight muscle temperature, especially following periods of sustained flight. 4. Both laboratory and field data show that certain bats are capable of coordinated and sustained flight at tissue temperatures well below recognized homeothermic levels.

Bats, viruses, emerging diseases and humans
This paper reviews the unique characteristics of bats, their important roles in providing ecosystem services, their viruses in relation to emerging diseases. Bats, as flying mammals, are the second largest order following rodents, with a wide variety (over 1400 identified species among 230 genera of 21 families in the world) due to their flying power and echolocation. Despite their importance a...
متن کاملGlobal warming alters sound transmission: differential impact on the prey detection ability of echolocating bats.
Climate change impacts the biogeography and phenology of plants and animals, yet the underlying mechanisms are little known. Here, we present a functional link between rising temperature and the prey detection ability of echolocating bats. The maximum distance for echo-based prey detection is physically determined by sound attenuation. Attenuation is more pronounced for high-frequency sound, su...
متن کاملO-21: Differential Expression and Epigenetic Pattern of HOX Family Genes in Cumulus Cells of Mature MII Oocytes from Patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Background Ovarian tissue cryopreservation represents a promising strategy to preserve the ovarian function in cancer patients. It is usually performed by slow freezing/rapid thawing (SF/RT). Recent studies emphasize an ultrarapid cryopreservation procedure, vitrification/warming (V/W), since it might prevent damages due to ice crystal formation. Comparative studies between the cryopreservation...
